Church planting / Discipleship / Community Transformation Seminar 2012   3 comments

A few of our team leaders were honoured and privileged to attend a five-day seminar in Kengsington in Jan.  Anna and myself were graciously hosted by Carol and Dave Stroud and their amazing children, Connor and Angie and Hendrik took up residence at beautiful Grace.  Some of the speakers were Dave and Alli Swann who dealt primarily with community transformation and Fred Berrington who handled the more practical aspects of discipleship.  It should be noted that these two components go hand-in-hand as discipleship brings about community development and if applied correctly, with the leading of the Holy Spirit, vice versa!

A wonderful time was had by all and we have learnt so many new and diverse methods and approaches, that we couldn’t wait to get back into the field!  We have started applying the get the community  to teach you and share with you approach in different ways and seen huge results!  One example is just walking through the communities with a little drum.  People stop us to chat and we ask them to teach us how to play this drum according to their culture.  In doing this they share the most amazing stories and then start asking us questions about life, God, creation, purpose and cultural practices etc.  These people have a hunger for truth and are so open to learning, but we learn so much from them too.  We have even on two occasions (by the leading of the Spirit), ventured into shebeens in the morning and started discussions and new friendships in this way, discovering one or two men and women of peace!

One of the methods of Bible Discovery we learnt, was story-telling.  We have applied this in all our Bible Discovery groups where one person reads the passage in their mother-tongue, and then everyone is involved in acting out the story just read.  Afterwards, we ask simple questions about how they understand what was happening, what it tells us about God and people and how they can apply that lesson in their lives practically.

Below are some photos of the seminar group and groups acting out the passages they have learnt as well as our integrating more into the communities.

Enjoy and God Bless!

Please continue to lift us up in prayer as we continue on this discipleship journey and pray for the workers of the harvest as well as the transformation of lives and communities by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus, continue to build Your Church,

The gates of hell will not prevail against it!

Thank you for taking the time to embark on this journey with us.
